Staten Island’s Insane $3.5M Medieval Castle Awaits Its Prince
Our semi-regular feature, Monday Mansion, examines the most interesting mega homes on the market in the far reaches of New York. Have a listing in mind that we’re missing? Tell us about it. To the outer boroughs we go!
A very special 12,000-square-foot giantess of a home, located in the Dongan Hills area of Staten Island, has been on the market for a hefty 606 days. Why? Broker Kristina Gershteyn says the sellers are holding out for the perfect prince buyer to come along. “It’s a different market on Staten Island. This is the creme de la creme,” she says. “It takes a special person to appreciate that kind of house, that kind of style. It’s not modern. You kind of have to fall in love with it.” “Not modern” would be the understatement of the century probably the 17th, to be exact. The five-bedroom, eight-bathroom mansion with a three-car garage has design features that wouldn’t be out of place in a palace, like hand-painted ceilings, porcelain-tile floors, inlaid medallions, massive French doors, an overwhelming number of drapes and tapestries, and a clawfoot tub. Let’s not forget about the multiple terraces, saltwater outdoor pool, indoor sauna, extensive game and entertainment facilities, and a 700-gallon aquarium in the grand foyer. Yeah, so, Staten Island has its doozies, but we’d contend this is one of the very worst best of the bunch. Initially listed in August of 2012 for $3,799,000, it’s now asking a PriceChopped $3.499M.
